iThrone with Table ideas

These drawings were done a while back but I didnt feel my progress at the time coincided with blogging them just yet.

So here is my Steve Jobs chair, dubbed the iThrone. I was thinking it looked too much like a toilet, but in the end I think I will stick with it. The iPod speakers should probably go though...

Also shown is a sneak preview of the table (I've drawn more plans for it, I promise!), with the rest to come after I've posted some screenies of my iThrone...

Papervator Finished (...?)

The developed Zhang Yin elevator. From the top it hasn't had too much change...

An Ashdown 8 x 10" bass speaker cabinet. This tower of power was the visual inspiration for the new configuration of exhausts.
The new undercarriage...
...with exhausts to make you thrust....
and it looks like lego.

The new configuration of the thrust mechanisms were visually inspired by the bass amp shown above. Conceptually, I wanted to encorporate eight of the mini exhausts into each "box", with eight in Zhang's native tongue being a homonym and symbol for wealth. They are arranged into nine boxes to represent her company, the Nine Dragons Paper Holdings.

Papervator development

Update!
I think I'll change the exhaust configurations to be like the ones shown in the above sketch.

Here is my elevator for Zhang Yin. I wanted this elevator to be larger than the iLift to represent Zhang's development of her company with the help of others, with prominant family members such as her husband and brother who hold senior positions in the company; she may frequently need more room to have them accompany her. Aesthetically, as a cardboard box manufacturer, i wanted the lift to be mainly rectangular and geometric, encorporating the reoccurant theme of tiers (to be seen in table and chair). Additionally, since her services and products are necessary as an accompanying packaging to existing product rather than prominant independant items, the lifting system uses a number of smaller and more shallow thrust exhausts rather than a single large one. These are configured around the perimeter to show that the boxes she makes are not the main concern of the product but is necessary to package products to be shipped and sold.

notes: the undercarriage is at a development stage, I am considering changing the configuration of the small exhausts to be contained in boxes to exemplify further what Nine Dragons Paper Holdings does.

Chair Research

Here are some images to give me more ideas regarding the chairs for the dining table. Since both clients both commanded a vast corporate empires and financial goliaths, I thought it fitting, particularly in the Zhang Yin's more traditional industry, to represent them in thrones rather than simple chairs. I've noted that the monolithic aura of power that thrones exert is achieved by an increased height and width of surrounding embellishments (such as the tall back), rather than the chair dimensions itself and that its something that I'll need to address if I were to achieve such an effect.

36 Textures of Movement

Finally the textures have been finished. As prescribed, they communicate the words 'linear', 'rotational' and 'scalar'. Additionally, I've picked the words 'oscillating', 'ecstatic' and 'lethargic' to communicate as textures since they are particularly specific but emotive movements.

...and yes, I realize that 'lethargic' is spelt incorrectly. I was... lethargic at the time.
*kicks self for terrible pun*

Behold: The iLift!

Ladies and gentleman, i give you the iLift... or at least the google sketchup version. The singular lift/thrust control, and the basic circular contours of the iLift represent Apple's ideas of achieving innovation through minimalistic simplicity. It is also relatively small and can only really fit one person in it, reflecting apple's appeal to the individual in the market (the "i" makes people buy ;)... )

ps. Happy Birthday to me.... not a teenager anymore :(

Elevator ideas/sketches

A couple of sketches i did last week to help me start thinking about elevators, what i wanted them to look like, how they might work, and how they would best reflect and represent the clients' style of leadership and the nature of their power...
